Have Your Lawmakers Committed to
Live Within Our Means?
Minnesota is facing a record
budget deficit of $6.4 billion, largely due to
out-of-control government spending. Because our state constitution
requires lawmakers to balance the state budget each
biennium, lawmakers will be forced to choose between cutting spending or raising
taxes in order to address the budget shortfall.

State lawmakers have been
invited to sign the
Live Within Our Means Commitment which represents
their assurance that they will first seek to
cut government spending before considering raising taxes on Minnesota families and businesses.
State government spending
increases have far outpaced inflation in 4 of the last 5
biennium. Additionally, Minnesota’s per capita
state and local tax collections have ranked amongst the top
ten states in 13 of the last 15 years. Given today's challenging
economy, Minnesotans simply cannot
afford additional tax increases.
Check the list below
to see if your lawmakers have signed the
commitment form. Use the
District Finder Tool to lookup your
legislative districts. Contact your lawmakers and encourage them to sign the commitment
form. Minnesota families and businesses must live
within their means and our state government should do the
same.
